The Boogie Special Learning Kit is an educational tool
designed to aid instructors to teach the Principles of Design
to students with Special Needs.

The kit is designed with materials safe for children, and uses a typeface that is friendly for those with learning disabilities
The kit is divided into 3 steps, each with varying tools and skills being taught.

Level 1 consists of a simple frame, a series of worksheets,
and 3 blocks of varying sizes

The frame is placed on the selected worksheet to help the student understand the restrictions of space. They are then encouraged to place the blocks in their corresponding position.

Once they are done, the teacher is then encouraged to explain to them how the position of the blocks adhere to the particular principle being taught.

Each worksheet consists of squares that correspond to a position for the block.

The aim is for the student to place the blocks in the position, and in turn understand how the complete image follows a particular principle.

Based on the discretion of the teacher, the student then graduates to the second level of the program.

Level 2 eliminates the need for a frame and the blocks, and allows the student to understand the concepts of grids and layers while staying true to the principles being taught to them.

Level 3 serves as a transitional phase to digital software like Adobe Photoshop or Illustrator. Therefore, phone apps like Canva, that use a similar concept of dragging and dropping elements into a virtual page work as an excellent tool.

The kit also comes with a simple two page pamphlet that gives the instructor a quick understanding of the principles of design. It also explains why understanding this principle is a key factor in learning design.

A poster is also provided for quick referencing in the classroom by students.

Through the website, we wish to make the kit a lot more accessible.
A lot of the times, teachers in institutions have to go through a lot of paperwork in order to get approval for funds to purchase new tools for the classroom.

While the focus of this kit is to open up new doors to students with special needs, one cannot ignore the fact that this also needs to be accessible to their instructors.

Therefore the Boogie Kit has been designed to be completely DIY friendly.
All the tools can be easily made using materials that can be easily found inexpensively.

The website also has a page where the teacher could create their own worksheets and print them out easily.
We hope to take the Boogie Kit forward.
While this is just a prototype and still awaits further testing and development, we believe that this kit can be adapted to a
world of specialized skills that are not being taught to
multiple students globally.

This training technique can be used for a wide variety of material across numerous fields, and we hope to collaborate with professionals to create kits in their fields of expertise.
